The STEM Center + MakerSpace Sacramento opened November 11, 2018.
Workshops and events in the STEM Center + MakerSpace will support STEM programming from GSUSA and 21st Century Skills. Girls will be encouraged to problem-solve interesting and community related issues with design thinking, computational thinking and the traditional scientific method. Subject areas will include engineering, programming, biology & environmental science, robotics and making/tinkering.
Designed by a group of local girl innovators, the STEM Center + MakerSpace provides a safe space for girls to explore their interest and build their confidence in STEM skills. Girls Scouts of all ages will find the resources necessary to complete the newest STEM journeys and badges as well as the tools and support necessary to take their ideas to the next level. The STEM Center and Maker Space promotes cooperative learning, leadership development and learning by doing in addition to allowing girls to apply skills learned in school in new ways.
The Maker Space is a community-built space powered by girls’ ideas and innovations. They will use this space to experiment and create, then use their solutions to help solve problems in their community. By connecting with the global maker movement, girls will be exposed to bigger and more exciting ideas that will challenge girls to dream bigger and help our Maker Space evolve.
