It's Fall, Y'all!

We don’t know about you, but Fall always seems to be one of the busiest seasons. Perhaps everyone has shaken off the slow pace of summer and jumped full throttle into school, activities, events and family obligations — or maybe it’s just the weather!

This fall is shaping up to be our busiest season ever (though, to be fair, last fall we hadn’t opened the Sacramento STEM Center + MakerSpace yet). September was our second month operating both spaces (Sacramento and Modesto) and October has our team working every weekend of the month, plus regular workshops! Between October 1 and December 18th, we have over 100 workshops and events planned for girls to engage in high-quality STEM programming. We’re earning our winter break!

The STEM Initiatives team is taking lessons learned from the last year in Sacramento and our first two months in Modesto to develop the calendars for January, February and March. We are also sending out a survey to ALL of our Girl Scout adults to find out what they and their Girl Scouts are looking to learn from our department. We are hoping to use that information to build better workshops that help troop leaders and girls meet their goals.

October 1, 2018 was the start of our ‘new’ year and started us back at zero. The team has set big, exciting goals for the next year including exciting events (day camps!), more workshops, and more girls served. We are trying new things (like delayed registration for workshops) and offering tried-and-true favorites.

While we may be growing and experimenting, one thing remains true: we put girls at the center of all we do. As of September 30th, our STEM Initiatives department had served 1700 girls (on the money!) with high-quality STEM programming. The best news: It’s just the beginning! We hope you’ll stay tuned to see what is next.
