January Round Up!
What a month! We kicked off 2017 with a bang. In January we hosted over 130 girls at 11 workshops ranging from DNA extraction to coding to Maker's Workshops.
Per usual, we kicked off the month with First Friday Open Lab for Seniors, Ambassadors and women in STEM. Attendees could experiment with Makey Makey's, jump into some discussion questions about STEM or build a Cookie Case Race prototype!
We were visited by some Daisies for winter-themed Maker's Workshop and had some help from Cadette Program Aides.
We were really busy during the month of January making away! Our workshops included learning how to program with Scratch, designing and building snack delivery systems and sewing cord organizers and making boho-mobiles at Maker's Workshop.
Our biggest and most exciting event of the month was a special DNA extraction workshop led by a real chemist! Dr. Nunez taught girls all about DNA and why strawberries were the best for this workshop. After the girls successfully extracted the DNA, they took their vials to make jewelry and earned their Jewelry Badge!
February is already off to a great start. Thank you to all the volunteers, parents and girls who made January great! See you next month.
